Our
Recipients
The recipients
of this year's
"West Side Street Dance at Lakeside Lumber"
will be the
following
-

Bend Area Habitat
for Humanity:
Central Oregon is
in dire need of "affordable housing" for families. A
substantial portion of the proceeds from this event will go directly
to Habitat to help them fund their capital campaign.
-
Healy Heights:
We will be building and stocking a library for children of Healy
Height ages 2-17. In addition, each child in the housing
complex will receive a hard back book of their very own. We
will also be adding additional software programs to their computer
lab, and providing additional literacy materials to be used by all
of the residents. This is part of our ongoing commitment and
partnership with Neighbor Outreach to insure that all of the
residents of Healy Heights (particularly the children) will be able
to compete with their peers whether in the classroom or in the work
place. Previously, we built and completely furnished (with 4
new Dell computers, a Dell color laser printer, digital camera
and all software and accessories) a new computer lab for use by
students and parents. Last year we built an ADA compliant
playground for children ages 2-5 that will not only be used by the
residents but will also accommodate the new Head Start program that
will begin in September 2007.
-
Guatemala Water
Project:
The Rotary Club of Bend High Desert, in partnership with the Rotary
Club of Florence, has obtained a matching grant from The
Rotary Foundation to provide clean water filtration systems for
remote communities in Guatemala. These $50/unit systems will
be provided to villagers at no charge. The grant will enable
us to provide these filters for approximately 5,000 families.
